Overview
Alagappa University, Karaikudi, is a premier State University established by the Government of Tamil Nadu to promote higher education, research, and community development across diverse disciplines. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an “A++” Grade, reflecting its excellence in teaching, innovation, and social responsibility.
In pursuit of its mission to make higher education accessible to all, Alagappa University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MARK Educational Health and Charitable Trust, Chennai, on 23 July 2010. The programmes are implemented through MARK Community College, which functions as a constituent unit of the Trust. This collaboration enables the offering of Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) degree programmes through the Distance Education Mode, thereby providing flexible, affordable, and high-quality learning opportunities for working professionals, rural students, and lifelong learners.
Under this MoU, all key academic and student support activities — including admissions, academic counselling, practical sessions, assignment distribution and evaluation, internal assessments, and examinations — are carried out by MARK Community College in coordination with Alagappa University. The College serves as an academic bridge between the University and its learners, ensuring smooth academic delivery and continuous support.
This long-standing partnership has produced many successful graduates who have gone on to excel in diverse fields. The collaboration continues to serve as a model for effective university–community engagement, combining flexibility, inclusivity, and academic excellence.
Academic Programmes (2010–2019)
Between 2010 and 2019, a total of 133 students enrolled in various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programmes offered through distance education under Alagappa University.
At the undergraduate level, programmes such as Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), and Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) attracted strong participation. Over this period, 78 students enrolled, out of which 69 successfully completed their courses and 58 qualified with university degrees. Among UG programmes, B.A. recorded the highest enrolment and pass rate, reflecting its broad appeal among distance learners.
At the postgraduate level, courses included Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Master of Arts (M.A.), and Master of Science (M.Sc.). A total of 55 students enrolled, 52 completed, and 44 qualified with postgraduate degrees. The M.B.A. programme emerged as the most popular among postgraduate learners due to its relevance and career-oriented curriculum.
Overall, this performance represents a completion rate of 91% and a qualification rate of 85%, underscoring the effectiveness of the teaching methodology and the academic support extended by MARK Community College.
Academic and Student Support Activities
During the period of collaboration, Mark Business School and Research Centre conducted several Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Professional courses under the academic supervision of the University of Madras.
These programmes were offered with the objective of providing both theoretical foundation and practical exposure in business and technology domains.
Student Admission and Registration:
Admissions were conducted transparently following Alagappa University norms, with verification of eligibility, documentation, and academic records.
Student Counselling and Guidance:
Orientation sessions and ongoing counselling helped learners understand course structures, learning strategies, and assessment patterns. Dedicated mentors provided personalised academic and career guidance.
Counselling Classes:
Regular contact classes were conducted by qualified faculty to ensure syllabus coverage, conceptual understanding, and examination preparation.
Practical Sessions:
For science and management students, hands-on sessions and laboratory work were organised to strengthen practical knowledge and skills, in compliance with university guidelines.
Assignment Preparation and Evaluation:
Students were guided in preparing assignments for each subject. Evaluations were carried out objectively and results forwarded to the University for approval and records.

Performance Overview
From 2010 to 2019, 133 students were enrolled across all programmes. Out of these, 121 students completed their studies successfully, and 102 students qualified with Alagappa University degrees.
These figures reflect the institution’s commitment to maintaining academic discipline and providing robust learner support. Graduates from this study centre have advanced into government, private, and non-profit sectors, while many others have pursued higher education across India and abroad.
